AMY'S STORY

IMG_0475.jpg

Ever since Amy Hoang rushed into the emergency room gasping for air at age four, she sensed she was going to have a hell of a time growing up. Throughout her life, Amy's mother was her number one cheerleader and urged her to venture out to better experiences than her mother endured. In fact, her mother mistakenly fed young Amy a small pistachio to see if her nut allergy existed. Short story, Amy ate the pistachio, ended up in the hospital, and her mother is forever mortified of her daughter's close death. Since then, Amy has been constantly sculpted by that maternal motivation to excel.

Her mother's beacon personality inspired Amy to attend VCU for Biology. Unfortunately, that wasn't the plan for Amy. Almost immediately, she failed out of Chemistry and Calculus in the first semester. Settling on a major took slightly longer, trying out four different fields before finally knowing what she wanted to do with her life. Amy is now studying Public Relations and General Business at Virginia Commonwealth University and knows this plan will stick.

It took the first years of college to learn to asset herself and find the power of her own voice. Realizing her self-worth led to living a positive life out of the shadows and dictating her own life (even if it's not her mother's original plan).

She is inspired to run her own PR agency or work in Public Affairs to make global changes dear to her heart. Amy chose Public Relations because, from the start, she struggled with communicating and saw an opportunity to challenge and improve her skills through public speaking and client interaction. She excels at social media, especially Instagram, due to its accessibility and how powerful pictures can represent multi-faceted, evolving journey much like her own.
